Tonight, as UK gets ready to play the Stanford Cardinals for there 1994 NCAA basketball victory, as a uber-fan, I think it is important to look both forward and backward at where the program is going and where it has been. On Jan. 18th 1969 (according to UK tradition) UK became the first team to 1,000 W's. Just over 30 years later, here we are on the dawn of celebrating 2,000. Although there has been both up's and down's for the UK basketball program, the 2,000 win mark as well as maintaining stats such the basketball's winningest program (both in W's and in percentage), #1 in 20, 25, and 30+ win season, #1 in NCAA tournament wins bodes well for where we have been, where we are, and where we are going. Although we are yet to seal the deal by being the first to 2,000 (UNC trails by 4 +/- games) it seems we are on pace to set it within the next month of the season. With a win against UNC in the matchup on Dec. 5, we can pretty much seal it. As UK fans we should be proud of the past, encouraged by the present, and excited for the future.
